New Year in Mexico
It has been a whole year since we got our house in Mexico. Time flies... The boys are picking up the language and making friends. The weather is awesome. We just came back from a couple of weeks in Oaxaca with Scotty. It was COLD compared to here. We stayed up in the mountains (Xiacui) for a few days and drank lots and lots of chocolate and coffee to stay warm. Mom broke the bank in a weaving village when she picked up a couple of beautiful rugs. We went to Arrazola and a few other villages that are known for their wood carvings. Scott got some owls and we ordered a gargoyl that should be done in a couple of months. We hit the beach and all four of the boys took surfing lessons. It was fun to watch. The waves and riptide were pretty strong so I just used the boogie board and flopped around in the water. Erich spent most of the trip puking out the car window bc the roads were so windy and precarious. We went to a coffee finca and got some good coffee. We checked out the Mercado de Abastos. I would have to say our of all of the places I have driven in this world (Mexico City, Guatemala City, Boston, NY...) Oaxaca was the most annoying. People start honking before the light turns green. Everyone double parks and cuts you off. It was not my favorite city overall. But the surrounding areas were great. We all go back to school on Monday. I have been teaching 10th, 8th and 7th grade English Liturature. Erich is in 9th grade and Asher is in 2nd. Jacob, 6th, has four tutors. Well I am off to go load my next quilting project to the Millie. My mom has been waiting for her quilt for awhile. I was ready to go, but the seven cats thought it was a hammock and stretched it all out of wack and now I need to unpin it and reload it.
